Water Purification at a Nanoscale Level In 2015,  Dr. Suryasarathi Bose , Assistant Professor of Department of Materials Engineering and a team invented a water purifying system that could even eliminate harmful bacteria at a nanoscale level. The filter consisted of a porous membrane made of two polymers, along with minute quantities of silver, titanium dioxide and carbon nanotubes. The pores filter out the micron-sized bacteria, while the silver-titanium-carbon mixture kills the bacteria. A Solar Water Purifier Another twist to the water purifier, this innovation by Professor Vasant Natarajan, from the Department of Physics is low cost and does not require membranes or electricity. According to Natarajan, this device could purify all kinds of water – sea, bore well, ponds, even rain water – into drinkable water, and produce 1.5 litres out of 3 litres of impure water. Explaining how the device works, he said that first the water is evaporated using solar energy,...

Chess

Chess is one of the oldest games in the world and it is assumed that the Origin of Chess is India and then spread over to the Arabian countries. There is an interesting story about the man, who invented chess coming from Persia and this story is around 800 years old. Long time ago a king named Shihram ruled over India. He was a despot. Around this time a wise man invented the game of chess to show the king how important everybody is, who lives in his kingdom, even the smallest among them.   The king on the chess board needs his queen, his rooks, bishops, knights and the pawns to survive. This is like in real life. The king should learn this. Shihram, the king, understood this very well and he liked this game very much and he became a chess player and ordered that this game should be played by everybody in his kingdom. The king was very thankful, let the wise man come and went with him to his treasures to give him gold and silver or other valuable things. "...

Yoga

The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Yuj' which essentially means to join or unite. The union referred to is that of the individual self uniting with Cosmic Consciousness or the Universal Spirit. Yoga is a means to achieving this goal. Born in India, almost 26,000 years ago, Yoga is believed to have evolved during the period of the ‘Sat Yuga’, also called the Golden age. This period became known as a time of everlasting peace and abundant blessings, filled with seekers of the Eternal Truth. That is why, probably, even today we associate yoga with sages and hermits. It was not until the discovery of the Indus- valley civilization, the largest civilization, that knowledge about the origin of Yoga surfaced. Excavations give evidence of yoga’s existence during this period; yogi -like figures engraved on soapstone  seals have been unearthed. In fact, it was the Aryans, migrating from the north- west, who were instrumental in discovering yoga. The history of yoga ...

How did Kamasutra originate in India?

Image
Kama Sutra isn't a concept to have originated. It is the name of a book written by Vatsayana that's now considered to be the standard compilation of human sexual behavior If you are asking how Vatsayana came with that idea, I believe that Indians were open about sex than anyone else. Indians associated sex with spirituality, pleasure and that which everyone is open about. We even have a dedicated God of Love ( Kamadeva ). Kama sutra (Formulas of desire), written more than 1500 years ago by Vatsyayan is still an international bestseller and one of the most downloaded books from Internet. “Kama sutra” could be called as a “ Gift of India to the world” because neither any ancient nor any modern book have written anything like this on one of the most controversial and marketable subject on the earth- “Sex”. The book is not only about the copulation between male and female but it also deals with romance, codes & conduct, interaction, marriage, lifestyl...
